The records behind the game

Higher or Lower uses three career records: Test runs, Test wickets and international goals for men’s national teams. Only players who have retired from that format are included, so every number is final and will not change while you play.

At the top of each list are the record holders. Sachin Tendulkar has the most Test runs with 15,921. Muttiah Muralitharan took 800 Test wickets, the most ever. In football, Ali Daei held the international goals record for many years before Cristiano Ronaldo passed him.

How to build a long streak

Think about how long a player’s career lasted and how often their team played. Players from England and Australia usually played more Tests than players from other countries, so their totals tend to be higher. Openers and top-order batters score more runs than middle-order players with the same average.

For goals, strikers who played in the 2000s and 2010s often have high totals because national teams play more matches now than in the past. Take your time: there is no clock, and one wrong answer ends the streak.
