Highest Individual Scores in ODI Cricket: Every Double Century
The highest individual score in men's ODI cricket is 264 by Rohit Sharma, made against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 13 November 2014. He faced 173 balls and hit 33 fours and nine sixes.
The first double century
For almost 40 years, no man scored 200 in an ODI. Sachin Tendulkar was the first, with 200 not out against South Africa in Gwalior in February 2010. The women's game got there first: Belinda Clark of Australia scored 229 not out against Denmark in 1997.

Rohit Sharma's three double hundreds
Rohit is the only player with three ODI double centuries. No other man has more than one. His 264 came after he returned from a finger injury, and he was dropped on 4 early in the innings.
Maxwell's 201 not out
Glenn Maxwell's 201* at the 2023 World Cup in Mumbai is often called the greatest ODI innings ever. Australia were 91 for 7 chasing 292 against Afghanistan, and Maxwell, suffering from severe cramp, won the match almost alone, standing still and hitting boundaries.
Why double centuries became common
Between 1971 and 2009 there were none in men's ODIs. Since 2010 there have been more than ten. Flatter pitches, bigger bats, shorter boundaries, two new balls per innings and fielding restrictions have all made scoring easier, and batters raised in T20 cricket attack from the first over.
